Beetle Bottoms and the Eyes in the Night is a children’s book that celebrates acceptance of people, races and cultures and the beauty of seeing the world through a child’s eyes.
After a swarm of bee’s lands in her tree, Pip wakes to discover a pair of eyes outside her window.
She is surprised to find the eyes belong to a boy called Hummer. It is the first time either of them have seen a different coloured Beetle Bottom and although shocked at first by their different appearances, they like each other instantly.
As a mum I want to know that the books I am buying children are fun to read, I want them to have gorgeous illustrations and I want them to bring out the best in my child.
We want our children to navigate the world confidently, for them to stand tall and say this is who I am; we want them to love themselves for who they are and to love others for what makes them uniquely them.
When children are raised up in a family and community who celebrate uniqueness and individuality negative experiences like bullying and low self esteem fall away.
Beetle Bottoms and the Eyes in the Night is not only a gorgeous book with breathtaking illustrations, it is a fun book to read for the whole family and introduces you children to the amazing world of the Beetle Bottoms, tiny people who live in your garden, which can lead to lots of fun exploring and adventuring.
The book also introduces the idea of people who look different to you in a fun and loving way, leaving you as a family to simply enjoy the book or use it as a safe and fun start to conversations or simply introduce the idea.
This book is being used by many teachers as a light and fun starting point for discussions around not judging people by how they look or by their differences.
